Meet Kelli

A lifelong Kentuckian, Kelli Kearney has dedicated her career to making our Commonwealth a better place in which to live. After earning a degree in sociology from the University of Kentucky, Kelli began working in the office of the Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney as a victim’s advocate. Standing alongside and developing relationships with victims of some of the most heinous crimes made Kelli realize that she wanted do more by being a criminal prosecutor.

A wife and mother, Kelli worked her way through the University of Kentucky College of Law, graduating with her law degree in 2011. She soon began work in the 14th Circuit as a staff attorney for the circuit court. In 2012, a position as Assistant Attorney General became available in Frankfort.

In 2013, Kelli was approached about serving as Assistant County Attorney in Scott County. This position enabled her to not only be closer to home, but to prosecute those who had broken the law, which was what drove her to pursue her law degree in the first place.

Eleven years later, Kelli has now worked for three different Scott County Attorneys, each of whom have had utmost trust in her abilities. The current officeholder, Cam Culbertson, immediately elevated her to First Assistant upon his election.

Kelli is married to Adam Kearney, and together they are the proud parents of two children, Jake and Kendall. Adam recently retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Kentucky Army National Guard. Jake is a sophomore at Great Crossing High School and Kendall is an 8th grader at Scott County Middle School. The family attends Grace Christian Church in Georgetown.

Dedicated to the People of the 14th Circuit

Our area of Central Kentucky is unique. The people of Bourbon, Scott and Woodford counties recognize that. Some of us are lucky enough to have been born here, while others have come here intentionally. Either way, we all know that our small part of the world is special. Keeping it that way, and even improving it, is Kelli’s top priority.

Kelli Kearney’s priorities as Commonwealth’s Attorneys will be:

Prosecuting Criminals

Kelli Kearney understands that the best deterrent for crime is to set an example that it will not be tolerated here. As the top prosecutor, she will use the law to its fullest extent to ensure criminals face consequences for her actions. Repeat offenders will not be given leniency. She will not accept plea deals simply because she is afraid to take a case before a judge and jury!

Cooperate with Law Enforcement

During her time in the Scott County Attorney’s office, Kelli Kearney has developed strong working relationships with members of the Scott County Sheriff’s office and local city police departments. She recognizes that law enforcement and prosecutors are teammates in the fight against crime. As Commonwealth’s Attorney, she will work with law enforcement officers in all three counties to ensure that they are full partners in bringing law and order to the 14th Circuit.

Compassion for Victims

Kelli Kearney recognizes that crimes are not just about the criminal. Felonies almost always have a victim. That victim has been violated in some way. That victim is vulnerable and could lose their faith in humanity, especially if they are failed by the system. Kelli served as a victims’ advocate for five years. She knows what they need from their Commonwealth’s Attorney. She will make sure that they receive the communication and support they need, while also feeling assured that the office is on their side in the fight for justice!
